Tutoring in the Residence Halls

University Residences & Dining Services wants you to succeed in your classes. To assist in your academic endeavours, tutoring is provided in several residence halls across campus. The tutors are upperclass students who have demonstrated aptitude and success in math and science. Tutoring is a drop-in program so you don’t need to schedule an appointment. All you have to do is show up with your questions.

Tutoring is offered in math, chemistry and physics. Tutoring takes place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7- 9 p.m. in the following locations:

South Campus: Steeb Hall, Park Hall, Siebert Hall, Canfield Hall

West Campus: Morrill Tower

North Campus: Scott House and Houck House

It’s reasonable to expect that tutors will help with the following:

  • Answer questions
  • Review concepts that may have been confusing in class
  • Let you practice your own work
  • Let you complete your own homework
  • Provide you with strategies that will help you work independently

Tutors will NOT do the following:

  • Provide you with answers to homework
  • Do homework for you
  • Allow you to skip classes

Other resources on campus that help with academic success and tutoring include:

Buckeye Readership Program

As a student at The Ohio State University, your access to daily newspapers can significantly enhance your learning and academic success on campus. Therefore, the Office of Residence Life sponsors a newspaper readership program for all students living in the undergraduate residence halls which provides prepaid newspapers every weekday morning in your lobby.

Through deliberate reading you will improve your ability to transfer learned content from classes into real-world applications. Reading newspapers is a fast and easy way to learn something new everyday as well as keep up with the world around you.
Discovering the world in this manner will provide you with a multitude of ideas for papers, class discussions, and other hands-on projects.
