Buckeye Village Community Rights and Responsibilities Living in a residential community often requires some adjustment to personal habits and attitudes. The university's Office of Housing and Residence Education have established policies and guidelines to promote a safe and secure living/learning environment. Abiding by these policies and guidelines ensures that the basic dignity, respect, and rights of all residents will be preserved. In this community, you have rights and responsibilities, as does every other resident who lives in family housing. You and all other residents have the right to:

  • Be treated with dignity and respect.
  • Study free from unreasonable interference.
  • Sleep without unreasonable disturbance from excessive noise and other distractions.
  • Expect that others will respect your personal belongings.
  • Live in a clean environment.
  • Host guests with the expectation that you will explain to them the accepted behavior standards of the community and that you will accept responsibility for their actions.

For these rights to be preserved, you and all other residents must take the responsibility to:

  • Treat other residents with dignity, respect, and consideration.
  • Respond to all reasonable requests from fellow residents.
  • Respond to and cooperate with family housing staff at all times.
  • Recognize that public areas and their furnishing belong to everyone and that abuse of those areas violates the rights of all residents.
  • Recognize and assume the consequences of your actions.
  • Take responsibility for personal and community safety: for example, use safety equipment properly (i.e. smoke detectors).
  • Keep the area in front of your apartment free from clutter (indoor furniture scattered toys, bikes, strollers, trash, etc.).
  • Do not lose, loan your apartment keys.
