Stadium Scholarship Learning Community
Program Overview:
History of the program:
The Stadium Scholarship Program (SSP), located in Scholars Houses East and West, is a cooperative program originally housed in the west side of Ohio Stadium. For over 70 years, the SSP has provided housing and meal scholarships for students who demonstrate both high academic ability and financial need. As part of the progam, students participate in a strong, close-knit community that is known for its programming, leadership development, and community service projects all rooted in cooperative living and learning. The program has a rich history and long standing tradition of academic success.
Benefits of this program include:
- The Stadium Scholarship Alumni Society awards thousands of dollars in scholarships for leadership, service and scholarship
- Influence the development of the community and gain valuable work experience through the student-directed cooperative work program
- Interaction with involved alumni, faculty, and staff
- Participate in numerous community service, diversity, and leadership activities.
How the Program Works:
- One of the fundamental aspects of the Stadium Scholarship Program is the cooperative work program
- Students work 6-8 hours a week over the course of the quarter in the hall in exchange for a reduced housing rate in the form of a scholarship
- Hours are flexible around class and exam schedules
- Students will evenly divide their hours between a weekly facilities shift and a community development committee, each requiring 3-4 hours a week of service
- Committees generally focus on programming, diversity and service, newsletter and yearbook, environmental initiatives, and other topics that are reelevant to the community
- The program is managed by three undergraduate Work Coordination Managers, two Resident Advisors, and University Housing Senior Staff
