Alumnae Scholarship Housing
Program Overview:
The Alumnae Scholarship Housing (ASH) program has offered a home-like, cooperative, and low-cost housing option for undergraduate women at The Ohio State University for more than seven decades. ASH has one of the oldest and strongest traditions on OSU campus. More than one thousand women have participated in the ASH program, many of whom have been awarded advanced degrees in a variety of fields and are actively involved in fundraising or mentoring the current students in the program. Their support helps to provide one if the finest learning communities in the country for the women of each house.
The Fall Welcome kicks off the year by introducing the alumnae, university faculty, and staff to new and returning undergraduate students in the houses. Throughout the year women enjoy a wide variety of programmatic efforts organized by staff and students alike that help to build the incredibly strong community in ASH. The year is capped off with the Women of the Year event held in the spring quarter. Here the alumnae recognize a woman from each house for their exceptional character and cooperative attitude as the “Woman of the Year.” The alumnae also generously award two women per house a full housing scholarship and various other monetary awards to women with exceptional academic performance.
The program is currently located on South Campus in Fechko House, Hanley House, and Pomerene House.
Benefits of this program include:
- Many opportunities for personal growth and development and exceptional character building
- Eligibility for full housing scholarship (six total, two from each house)
- Eligibility for undergraduate scholarships funded specifically by the Alumnae Scholarship Housing Board
- Interactions with ASH alumnae, faculty, and staff on campus, who share similar interests and careers
- Active participation in the planning, management, and decision making of the house
How the program works:
- One of the fundamental aspects of the Alumnae Scholarship House program is the cooperative work program
- Women in the house work one facilities shift per week and one dinner crew, where the women prepare dinner for the other members of the house. Dinner is usually served at 6:00pm Monday-Thursday
- Women participate in community programs, events, and service through student-led initiatives
- Each house is managed by an undergraduate House Manager and Food Manager, along with a Resident Advisor in collaboration with the University Housing Senior Staff
