Exploration Learning Community

Program Overview:

The Exploration Learning Community is for students who are undecided and still searching for the perfect major.  You will get to hear from people who will tell you about academic majors and help you determine what may be the best academic major for you to pursue.  Some highlights from past programming include:

  • Visiting with professionals from the Columbus Zoo and their animal friends to learn about careers at the zoo
  • Learning break dancing and the majors offered in the School of Physical Activity and Educational Services
  • “What is your major?" Wednesdays
  • Turf Grass Science program and Tour of the Ohio Stadium
  • Visit from Roadtrip Nation
  • And many, many more!

All told, last year there were close to 50 events where students could learn about careers or majors.

University Housing collaborates with the Exploration Advising Office and typically academic advisors provide academic advising in the halls once per week in addition to their regular office hours in Denny Hall.

There is also an Exploration Resource Room in Smith Hall. Some of the resources in this room include:

  • Library with career resources
  • Computers with career/ major decision-making software.
  • Additional study space

Any student living in Smith Hall is eligible to participate in any of the exploration events.
