It’s likely that residence hall living is a bit different than the experience your child had living at home. Students may be experiencing curfew-free, self-maintained schedules and his or her first roommate in this new environment.  While this is an exciting rite of passage, it can also potentially be a bit overwhelming at first.

Parents can be a helpful support system simply by listening to the student, supporting his or her involvement and encouraging independence.
