Office Assistants (OAs)

OAs are responsible for greeting residents and visitors as they enter and exit the residence halls; providing high quality customer service; distributing mail and packages; are knowledgeable of campus resources and creating a welcoming, inclusive front desk atmosphere. OAs report directly to the Administrative Associate or Resident Manager and Hall Director(s)/Housing Coordinator in their assigned complex or hall. 


  • All candidates must obtain and maintain a 2.0 semester and cumulative G.P.A. through the entire hiring process and their time as an Office Assistant.
  • OAs must be enrolled as full-time students during their terms of employment and be in good standing with the University.
  • You must reside in an on-campus residential facility. Students living in Greek Housing are eligible to be a Temporary OA the first 7-weeks of the Autumn term, but cannot remain on staff for the full academic year.
  • You should be aware of the position contract dates. If you are selected to be an OA, you will need to plan your travels around these dates. OAs residing in on-campus housing for the 2019-2020 academic year will be expected to move-in to their fall housing assignment on between Friday, August 2, 2019 at 8 am and Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 7 pm. 

Information Sessions

Students interested in being an OA on the Columbus Campus for the 2019-2020 academic year are encouraged to attend an Information Session to learn more about the OA position. Sessions will be led by current Resident Managers. Information Sessions will be hosted as follows:

  • West Campus: Thursday, January 10th, 2019 at 7 pm in the Browsing Room @ Morrill Tower
  • North Campus: Wednesday, January 16th, 2019 at 7 pm in the Bolder Room @ Raney House
  • South Campus: Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019 at 7 pm in the Park-Stradley Basement (Stradley-Side)

Application Process

  • Step 1: Complete an online application by visiting Applications will be open starting Monday, February 4, 2019 at 8 am and will close at 11:59 pm on Sunday, February 10, 2019.
    • Upon logging in, you will need to complete your applicant profile. On the homepage, underneath the heading “Your job applications” – you will want to click on “View job positions”. There you will see the “Spring OA Hiring” application.
  • Step 2: Upon review of your application, you may be advanced to our in-person Interview Weekend. 20-minute interviews will be conducted at Lawrence Tower between Friday, February 28th, 2019 and Saturday, March 2nd, 2019. Candidates moving to this step in the process will receive an e-mail notifying them to sign-up for an interview.
    • Please note: all completed applications will be reviewed. Due to the high capacity of applications received, not all candidates can be advanced to an interview. Candidates who do not advance are welcome to re-apply for the OA position in the future.


  • New Office Assistants are compensated at an hourly rate of $8.55. Pay raises are awarded when a student employee successfully completes 360 hours worked.
  • OAs living in on-campus housing (on the Columbus Campus) that arrive on Friday, August 2nd, 2019, will have their Early Arrival fee waived.
