Move-In FAQs
August 7, 2020
Information as of August 7, 2020. Please check back regularly for updates as information is subject to change.
The student Move-In process will occur over a period of 12 days leading up to the first day of the autumn semester. Residence hall openings will be staggered over this period. Students will schedule a move-in date and time to ensure a limited number of students move onto each floor of each building at a time (a maximum of eight per building per one-hour period), with the goal of facilitating physical distancing throughout the entire Move-In process. We will also limit move-in times for buildings in close proximity to each other to facilitate physical distancing and better manage traffic flow. Scheduled move-in time blocks will occur from August 12 to August 23, although not all buildings will be available for move-in on each of these dates.
- Students are asked to limit the number of people assisting them with Move-In to 1-2 people. Students and those helping them move will be asked to wear face masks, unless not advisable for health reasons, as well as perform temperature and COVID-19 symptom self-assessments before arriving on campus. As we learn more about COVID-19, these guidelines and expectations may be adjusted.
- Moving carts will be provided to students to assist with Move-In; staff will sanitize carts after each use.
- A limited number of Move-In volunteers will be on-site to direct traffic and answer questions but will not assist students with moving belongings.
What does my Move-In arrival window mean?
The Move-In arrival day and time you have chosen is the time you should plan to arrive at your residence hall.
Can I change my Move-In arrival window once I have signed up?
Changes can be made to the arrival windows until the day you arrive. You can schedule a time for Move-In or change your arrival time at housingportal.osu.edu/myhousing
Where can I get information about traveling to Ohio State?
You can get customized notifications on traffic, construction, weather and other incidents affecting your route to campus by downloading the OHGO app (Android or Apple) from the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Can I bring a commercial moving truck to campus for Move-In?
No. Due to the limited amount of space to unload at each residence hall, commercial moving trucks (such as a U-Haul) cannot be accommodated on campus. You may bring multiple family vehicles if necessary. However, we request you limit the number of family members accompanying you to 1-2 people to enable physical distancing on campus.
What should I do if I have a technology or maintenance issue with my room?
They should go to s2f.osu.edu to enter service requests for maintenance and housekeeping. Students experiencing internet problems should go to http://go.osu.edu/resnetsupport
What if I arrive and my bed needs to be bunked or lofted?
Report the issue by logging onto go.osu.edu/servicerequest. Environmental Services staff will schedule a time to complete your request. For safety please do not try to bunk or loft the beds yourself. Please note that not all residence halls allow for bed height adjustments.
I live in a hall where a lofted bed is possible, but only if rented. How do I order a loft?
The bed loft request portal is now closed. If you wish to have your bed adjusted, please wait until you move into your residence hall and submit a work order request via s2f.osu.edu. Please note that not all options are available in every building. Bed loft requests may take at least a week to complete.
What dining facilities are open on Move-In day?
The locations and operating hours for Student Life Dining Services can be found online at dining.osu.edu.
Do I need renter’s insurance?
It is advisable to protect personal belongings in the instance of flood, fire, theft or other unexpected events that may occur in or around university housing. Ohio State does not provide insurance coverage to student occupants and in order to reduce the financial burden of replacing personal belongings after such unexpected events, residents are strongly encouraged to obtain appropriate coverage, including renter’s insurance.
After we’ve unloaded the vehicle, where should my family park?
Please refer to osu.campusparc.com for locations near your residence hall.

How do I submit my vaccination requirement form?
Student Health Services is requiring an appointment for any individual coming into the facility, less pharmacy. That said, we are taking a vaccination requirement documentation electronically and not in-person at this time. If the student needs a notary they should contact medicalrecords@osu.edu and the team will be in touch to set up a date and time.
