Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences LLC

The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences is dedicated to providing a unique and exciting living-learning opportunity for students interested in food, agricultural, or environmental science majors within the college. The first living-learning community at OSU, the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Living-Learning Community focuses on helping participants become successful students and future professionals through an approach which emphasizes: practical experiences, mentorship, academic achievement, and leadership development. The College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Living-Learning Community is for first and second-year students whose majors are in food, agricultural and/or environmental sciences and who seek to enhance their leadership, communication and teamwork skills.

Living-Learning Community Goals

  • Enhance learning experiences by providing opportunities to learn from world-renowned faculty experts.
  • Gain leadership skills through College-directed leadership events.
  • Develop other soft skills, such as communication, problem solving, self-management, teamwork and professionalism in order to interact with peers, faculty, staff, community and industry representatives.

Living-Learning Community Highlights

  • Monthly meetings interacting with world-renowned faculty and staff on research and outreach opportunities.
  • Off-campus trips to visit industry professionals.
  • Academic advising office hours and career advisor office hours offered in the residence hall.
  • Connections to on-campus professional staff to support their personal wellness and develop inclusive skills sets.
  • Expand professional networks by interacting with industry representatives who are CFAES Alumni.
  • Other events include: monthly socials, diversity and wellness discussions, personal finance and scholarships discussion, career development workshops, and team building exercises.  

LLC Application and Housing Due Dates for Incoming First-Year Students

  • A submitted Living-Learning Community Application is due by April 15, 2025. No late applications will be accepted. You do not have to wait until you are accepted to Ohio State and/or receive your housing contract to apply. 
  • Students will receive an update on their application status by April 30, 2025.
  • Please make sure your contract and space reservation fee are received no later than May 15, 2025 in order to ensure your eligibility to participate in a Living-Learning Community. Housing Contracts are sent to your Ohio State email account based upon your paid acceptance to the University beginning in March.

Please note that all students in Living-Learning Communities are required to reside in a space within the Living-Learning Community and live with other Living-Learning Community participants. Living-Learning Community students may only request a roommate accepted into the same LLC.

LLC Application and Housing Due Dates for Current OSU Students

  • Current Ohio State students who will be be in their second year during the 2025-2026 school year and are interested in joining or returning to a living-learning community should complete the Living-Learning Community Application no later than February 15, 2025
  • Completing this application does not guarantee housing in an Ohio State Residence Hall or a specific room type. You must submit your reselection form by the Housing and Residence Education deadline in order to participate. Your housing reselection information will arrive at your OSU e-mail account at a later date.
  • Students will receive an update on their LLC application status by the end of February.
  • Change of campus students must also contact Housing Assignments no later than February 1, 2025 at 614-292-8266 or housing@osu.edu to ensure they are included in the housing reselection process and eligible for Living-Learning Community participation.
