 Learning Community Highlights

  • Early arrival programming to build relationships with fellow SUSTAINS members, connect with SUSTAINS staff, and participate in a service project.
  • Opportunity to be involved with sustainability initiatives on campus, as well as service opportunities in the community.
  • Engagement with faculty on research projects and learning opportunities, including sustainability education, systems thinking, community development, and social equity.
  • Site visits to green business locations for tours and discussion with faculty.
  • Participation in Columbus-wide service days (Earth Week) and campus activities for Earth Day.
  • Specialized second-year student initiatives include: A leadership retreat to explore values and group dynamics, discussion about effective mentorship behaviors, support for the internship and career search, meaningful connections with first-year students, and an exploration of careers within public affairs via connections with alumni and employers.

How to Apply (New Students)

  • Students interested in being a member of the SUSTAINS Learning Community should complete the Learning Community Application by April 16, 2018. No late applications will be accepted. You do not have to wait until you are accepted to Ohio State and/or receive your housing contract to apply. 
  • Housing Contracts are sent to your OSU email account based upon your paid acceptance to the University beginning in March.
  • Please make sure your contract and space reservation fee are received no later than May 31, 2018 in order to ensure your eligibility to participate in a Learning Community. 
  • On your contract, please make sure you select North Campus as your requested area of residence.
  • Please note that all students in Learning Communities are required to reside in a space within the Learning Community and live with other Learning Community participants. Learning Community students may only request roommates accepted into the same LC.

How to Apply (Current Students)

  • Current OSU students who will be be in their second year during the 2018-2019 school year and are interested in joining or returning to the SUSTAINS Learning Community should complete the Learning Community Application no later than January 26, 2018. Completing this application does not guarantee housing in an Ohio State Residence Hall or a specific room type.  You must submit your reselection form by the University Housing deadline in order to participate.  Your housing reselection information will arrive at your OSU e-mail account at a later date. 
  • Please note that all students in Learning Communities are required to reside in a space within the Learning Community and live with other Learning Community participants. Learning Community students may only request roommates accepted into the same LC.
  • Change of campus students should apply through this (the current student) application and must also contact Housing Assignments no later than January 26, 2018 at 614-292-8266 or housing@osu.edu to ensure they are included in the reselection process and eligible for Learning Community participation.
