 Learning Community Highlights:
  • Early arrival programming to build relationships with fellow SUSTAINS members, connect with SUSTAINS staff, and participate in a service project.
  • Opportunity to be involved with sustainability initiatives on campus, as well as service opportunities in the community.
  • Engagement with faculty on research projects and learning opportunities, including sustainability education, systems thinking, community development, and social equity.
  • Site visits to green business locations for tours and discussion with faculty.
  • Participation in Columbus-wide service days (Earth Week) and campus activities for Earth Day.
  • Specialized second-year student support initiatives including: Exploration of internships and careers rooted in sustainability, supporting first-year students in SUSTAINS via check-ins about their collegiate transition, and development of event planning skills
Academic Component
How To Apply (New Students)
  • Students interested in being a member of the SUSTAINS Learning Community should have completed the Learning Community Application by April 17, 2017 at 11:59 pm. No late applications are being accepted. 
  • On your contract, please make sure you select North Campus as your requested area of residence.
  • Please make sure your contract and space reservation fee are received no later than May 31, 2017 in order to ensure your space in a learning community. 
  • Please note all students in learning communities are required to reside in a space within the learning community and with other learning community participants. Learning Community students may only request roommates accepted into the same LC.
How to Apply (Current Students)
  • Current OSU students (those who will be sophomores for the 2017-2018 school year) interested in joining or returning to the SUSTAINS Learning Community should complete the Learning Community Application no later than February 1, 2017. Completing this application does not guarantee housing in an Ohio State Residence Hall or a specific room type.  You must submit your reselection form by the University Housing deadline in order to renew for housing at Ohio State's Columbus Campus.  Your housing reselection information will arrive at your OSU e-mail account at a later date. All students in learning communities are required to reside in a space within the learning community and with other learning community participants.
  • Change of campus students must also contact Housing Assignments no later than February 1, 2017 at 614-292-8266 or to ensure they are included in the reselection process and eligible for a Learning Community.
